Full time/Part-time consulting/Volunteering roles:
 

1. ESIC Systemic Improvements Executive
 

Safe in India Foundation (“SII”) seeks a passionate experienced individual to help improve ESIC (Employee State Insurance Services) on a full-time/part-time consulting basis.

SII, a Community Service Organisation, founded by alumni of IIMA, and advised by a senior Council of Advisors, is engaged in three key social-impact areas:

(a) assisting workers injured in Gurgaon-Faridabad factories with their ESIC healthcare and compensation,

(b) using this experience to help improve ESIC processes for about 14 crore Indians depending directly or indirectly on ESIC and,

(c) using this evidence to improve safety in Indian auto-sector supply chain to reduce such accidents for more than 3 crore workers. 

Since 2016, SII has assisted 2,700+ workers with healthcare and compensations (value in excess of Rs 20 crores), influenced ESIC in numerous process improvements, and started accident prevention initiative with Central/State ministries, their relevant agencies and the auto-sector and its apex associations. Role: This is a key strategic role, reporting to SII Co-Founder & CEO, to assist Indian workers, by leading SII’s ESIC systemic improvement initiative, including the following: 

1. Structure and analyse evidence of ESIC’s good and not-so-good on-the-ground practices, collected through SII’s own Worker Assistance Centres, currently in Gurgaon and Manesar, and through potential partners/research in Tamilnadu, Maharashtra and Gujarat, to provide regular feedback to ESIC for continuous operational improvements in their processes of healthcare and compensation.

2. Understand the Indian health system, ESIC’s role within it, its unique services and benefits and their importance for Indian workers; and create strategies for pushing for systemic improvement in ESIC rules, regulations, governance, etc. to ensure that it serves the current 14 crore+ Indians better and provide them the promised healthcare from the government and reduce their dependance on expensive private medical care.


3. Keep abreast with changes in ESIC rules and regulations, and their implementation, especially in the context of the new Social Security Code and ensure SII’s response to them proactively and robustly.

4. Author Safe in India’s recommendations, presentations, communication and reports for influencing multiple stakeholders with constructive suggestions.


5. Represent SII externally and build relationships with senior stakeholders, nationally and regionally, to make these improvements happen, including labour unions to improve awareness and utilization of ESIC services. 


Requirements:
 

(a) At least 5-7 years’ impact experience in social sector and/or healthcare and/or health insurance and/or policy research/implementation,

(b) Strong Research, Analytical and English Communication skills,

(c) Ideally Post-graduate/PhD/equivalent

(d) Genuine ability to empathise with the cause of Indian workers in line with our values and to help improve public sector delivery

(e) Willingness to work and engage with the community

(f) Location ideally Delhi/Gurgaon,

(g) Commitment to this role for at least 2-3 years

2. Project Manager: Worker Safety/Auto-sector Supply Chain Accidents Prevention

 

Safe in India Foundation (“SII”) seeks a passionate experienced individual to help improve safety in India’s auto-sector supply chain on a full-time/part-time consulting basis.

 

SII, a Community Service Organisation, founded by alumni of IIMA, and advised by a senior Council of Advisors, is engaged in three key social-impact areas:

Role: This is a key strategy implementation role, reporting to SII Co-Founder & CEO, and working closely with SII Head of Safety, to assist in a number of initiatives agreed with the Central and State Labour Ministries and their relevant agencies, and the Indian auto-sector brands and their apex organisations – SIAM and ACMA, including the following (several others not mentioned below for reasons of confidentiality):

1. Design, agree with relevant stakeholders in state and industry, and implement effective safety awareness and training programmes for factory-workers and supervisors, both physically and through SII social media platforms. “Empower workers with knowledge”.
 

2. Implement initiatives of with the objective of “investment in factory safety improves productivity” with government agencies eg. MSME ministry.

 

3. Identifying areas of OSH education for technical professionals and workers, in institutes like the Central Labour Institute, ITI/Diploma/Engineering and developing actions to strengthen them at policy and implementation level.
 

4. Primary and secondary data collection and analysis , as agreed, to inform and co-author SII’s annual series of accident prevention reports “CRUSHED”.

 

5. Represent SII externally and build relationships with senior stakeholders, nationally and regionally, to execute these projects to high quality and effectiveness.
 

Requirements:

(a) At least 3-5 years’ impact experience in social sector and/or manufacturing/training and/or project management and/or policy research/implementation,

(b) Strong implementation experience backed by strong English and Hindi Communication skills,

(c) Ideally at least graduate/ equivalent,

(d) Genuine ability to empathise with the cause of Indian workers in line with our values,

(e) Willingness to work and engage with the community,

(f) Location ideally Gurgaon/Delhi,

(g) Commitment to this role for at least 2-3 years,
 

Remuneration: Competitive NGO remuneration, based on skills and experience. Senior professionals, who wish to work part time, would also be remunerated based on time and delivery.

3. Worker Benefit Executive 

Safe in India Foundation (“SII”) seeks a passionate experienced individual who will outreach in worker communities to assist them in obtaining ESIC benefits. Remuneration depending on skills and experience.

 

Location: SII head office, Manesar.

5. Other Part-Time Paid/Volunteer Roles:

We are looking for passionate part-time assistance (depending on seniority, experience and delivery commitment, we will offer an honorarium) in the following areas. Location ideally Gurgaon/Manesar/Delhi though some of these roles can be done remotely.
 

1. Industrial Safety especially on Power Presses.
 

2. Indian Labour Laws, Factory Act and other laws relevant to our work.

3. Research/Surveys, data collection, data-analysis and presentation.

 

4. Digital Marketing/Social media/web-site management to improve our digital presence among various stakeholders including Hindi speaking workers.

5. Communication collateral for workers in Hindi/Oriya.

6. Management of contact with Investors in Indian auto-sector to push the safety agenda.

7. Training especially for Industrial workers (we need your soft training skills; we can provide content).

8. Senior contacts in government (ideally retired IAS, etc officers who now want to give back to the society)

9. Creating Audio-visual content eg. build a storyline with us, shoot content and create short videos.

10. SME factory experience and contacts in Gurgaon-Manesar especially in auto-sector manufacturing.
 

11. RTI (Right to Information) to obtain information from government departments.

12. Fund-Raising of donations from individuals/CSR (Indian passport holders only can donate to us). We do not pay commissions on donations received so CSR-agents need not contact us.
