Safe in India Annual Update 2018: Help us help Indian workers (Donate, Provide Expertise, Spread the

Writer: Safe in IndiaSafe in India

It is with great pride and gratitude that we send to you this progress report for our second full year of operations. Here is a 3min video with 2018 Update (thanks Vinay Dixit) that summarise it all:

Highlights of the year:

Helped workers with their desperate post-injury need, better than planned. We have now assisted 1700+ injured workers with their ESIC healthcare and helped them obtain Rs 8.9cr+ of ESIC compensation assisted (up from 1.5cr by Dec17) of which 121 handicapped workers received Permanent Disability Benefit (“Pensions”). To empower workers with knowledge and community support, we conducted 11 Worker Support Group meetings and our first ever Shramik Sammelan with 100+ injured workers to launch ‘ESIC Hitlaabh (benefits) Diary’ inspired by Ajeevika Bureau to track ESIC benefits and interactions. We have increasingly intensive working relationship with Labour Ministry, ESIC National HO and Gurgaon Region, for systemic change regionally and nationally and have agreed 25+ actions.

Our Accident Prevention Initiative started in 2018 as planned. Our new Head of Safety joined. We analysed 30,000+ data points from 1000+ auto-sector injured workers and sent an Accident Prevention Report ("Crushed") on insights and recommendations to three large auto brands and Ministry of Labour for discussion and agreement on actions needed. Our next step is to launch this Report to public, auto-sector investors, principle shareholders and other stakeholders and monitor implementation of agreed actions. We have also established two expert panels for study of National Voluntary Guidelines (NVGs) regarding safety and Power presses (52% of accidents) to identify possible specific accident prevention strategies.

Safe in India Foundation internal Infrastructure strengthened further. We celebrated two successful years of the first Worker Assistance Centre in Manesar and opened second (pilot) branch in Bawal in Jan19. Our on the ground team is working hard despite daily challenges of dealing with many resistant stakeholders. Four Shramik Saathis (workers who volunteer to help fellow workers) are now active in the community. Operational IT system for worker registration is now fully functional (thanks to Dhananjay Nene, IIMA91, and SOIL Academy interns)

We need your help with donations and expertise to help Indian workers:

Help us raise funding and spread the word: details here. For every One lakh Rupee donated, we can (a) help 20+ workers with their post-accident healthcare, (b) help obtain compensations of c.Rs10 lakhs, (c) help systemic change in ESIC benefits that miss out on and Accident Prevention. (d) make hundreds of Indian workers aware of ESIC and Safety. NB: Co-Founders/CEO provide their time and services free to Safe in India Foundation, and also do NOT claim any reimbursements for their travel, hotel and other out of pocket expenditure.

Help us finding expertise in investor relations, communications, digital marketing, training, audio-visual content creation, event management and any other relevant area you can imagine.

Thank you again and we look forward to your continued support. Please do not hesitate to ask any questions/clarifications at team@safeinindia.org.
